When people started worshiping Psyche,  Venus the goddess of love and beauty was very jealous, and asked her son Cupid  to make Psyche fall in love with a horrible monster. When he saw how beautiful she was, Cupid dropped the arrow meant for her and pricked himself, and fell in love with her.Having known this Venus started doing all kinds of malicious things against Psyche. This painting is about her vengeance against Psyche, in a  post-impressionism style .  You can read  about myth of  Phyche-Cupid  here.!
